1. Lucy Ho, Lucy Ho’s Oriental Bistro - Nominated by Pat Pallentino
Warm, friendly service has always been a hallmark of Lucy Ho’s restaurants, with a focus on not disappointing customers and always providing something unique. In many Chinese restaurants, the employees are hired strictly based on ethnic background. Lucy is a great example of an equal opportunity employer. Further, she has encouraged many of her employees to improve themselves through further education and has even helped several start their own businesses. For many years, her restaurant has been represented at almost every community, civic and charitable event where food is served and she can often be found personally supervising the cooking and serving at these events. The costumes she has made for FSU’s Theater Department are legendary and the many, many college students she welcomes into her home for weekly meals are uncountable. She also encourages the use of her restaurant for civic group meetings, donating the use of a banquet room without additional charge. Innovation in the restaurant business is necessary for survival and Lucy has reinvented her business several times. Her newest experiment, Massa, is a hallmark to understanding the basis of her target market.
She is best described through the Rotary Four Way Test:
Is it the Truth? In both her business dealings and community relationships, Lucy has gained a reputation of unquestionable character.
Is it fair to all concerned? Whether it is a meal served at her restaurants or a catering contract, every employee reflects the ideal of fairness and provides a good value.
Will it build good will and better friendships? Through both her business dealings and her many charitable efforts, the community knows it can count on Lucy as a true friend.
Will it be beneficial to all concerned? For the past thirty plus years, she has contributed much to our community. And all of this is done without fanfare or even much notice.
